If you've ever tried to send crypto and got stuck because you didn't have enough ETH, POL, or BNB to cover the fee, you know the frustration. You have money in your wallet, but you can't move it. Wigwam has fixed that with a new feature that lets you pay gas using stablecoins instead.
What this feature does
Wigwam now lets you pay transaction fees (gas) using the stablecoins you already hold — USDC, USDT, or DAI — instead of needing a native gas token. This removes the need to juggle multiple tokens just to make a simple transfer.
Right now, this works for sending operations. Support for swaps and other operations is planned for future updates.
Why you needed a gas token before
Every blockchain normally requires you to hold its own native token to pay for transactions:
- Sending on Ethereum? You needed ETH.
- Sending on Polygon? You needed POL.
- Sending on BNB Chain? You needed BNB.
This was a major friction point, especially for new users who only held stablecoins and had no idea they also needed a separate token just to move their funds.
Step-by-step: how to send tokens without gas
1) Open Wigwam and make sure you're on a supported network (see the list below).
2) Make sure your wallet holds a supported stablecoin — USDC, USDT, or DAI.
3) Start a regular send transaction as you normally would.
4) If you don't have the native gas token for that network, Wigwam automatically uses your stablecoin balance to cover the fee.
5) Confirm the transaction. That's it — no need to manually top up your wallet with a native token first.
You don't need to switch on any special setting. Wigwam detects the missing native token and handles the fee for you behind the scenes.
Supported blockchains and tokens:

Why this matters
Simpler onboarding. New to crypto? You no longer need to understand gas tokens to get started. Buy USDC or USDT and you're ready to transact on any supported chain.
Less wallet management. No need to keep small balances of ETH, POL, and BNB just to cover fees. Hold stables and use them across the whole crypto market.
Fewer failed transactions. Running out of gas mid-transaction is no longer an issue on supported chains.
A note on custody
Your funds stay fully in your control. Wigwam is a self-custodial MPC wallet, meaning only you hold your keys - paying gas with stables doesn't change that.
Troubleshooting
Transaction still failing? Check that your stablecoin balance is enough to cover both the transfer amount and the estimated gas fee.
Feature not showing up? Make sure your Wigwam app is updated to the latest version.
Sending on an unsupported chain? You'll still need the native gas token on chains outside the 6 listed above.
