Understanding a Zero Balance Issue After Importing an Old Wallet

Welcome to our simple guide on why you might see a zero balance after moving your wallet to a new platform. Let's explore easy steps to fix this and get your digital funds showing correctly.

1. Verify Tokens balances  in Your Old Wallet

Check that your old wallet has tokens. Use a blockchain explorer like Etherscan to check for tokens in your old wallet. If tokens are present, proceed to the next step.

2. Handling Multiple Accounts in Your Old Wallet

Your seed phrase generates private keys for all accounts in your wallet. When importing to Wigwam via a seed phrase, remember it accesses only the first account by default. You should add other accounts manually .

3. Correcting Seed Phrase Errors

Entering an incorrect seed phrase in Wigwam creates a new, empty account, because Wigwam perceives any 12 or 24 words as a seed phrase for the wallet generation. You will see a new wallet address that is different from your old one.

Please check the following:

  • You use a seed phrase from the right old wallet (For instance, you used a Wigwam wallet but placed the Trustwallet seed phrase).

  • Check each word against the dictionary provided, focusing on the first and last words.

  • Avoid extra spaces before or after the phrase.

  • Alternative Check: Import your old Seed phrase into another Ethereum wallet (e.g., Metamask) to confirm its accuracy.

5. Disabling Autocorrect and Autotranslators

Ensure browser plugins (Especially, translators)  do not alter your seed phrase. After input, verify the phrase matches what you originally wrote.

6. Resolving Technical Issues

After a wallet generation, Wigwam syncs with EVM blockchain nodes to update token balances. If balances don't show, wait a few minutes and refresh the Wigwam wallet. Use a blockchain explorer to view current balances in the meantime.
